The Battle of Kings Mountain

In 1780, the Patriot cause was suffering from losses across the colonies. Then, a British commander threatened to cross the Appalachians and lay waste to the settlements established in what is now East Tennessee, and that changed everything. Around 1400 militia were mustered from Southwest Virginia, present-day East Tennessee and Western North Carolina and set out to teach the Tories a lesson at Kings Mountain, South Carolina. In the process, they turned the tide of the Revolution, eventually leading to American independence. On this episode of Stories, Steve and Rod tell the story of the Overmountain Men and the Battle of Kings Mountain.
